INFORMATION

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Aircraft Maintenance Engineering?

An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) carries out and certifies overhauls, major repairs of aircraft, power plants, components and accessories before their release to service in accordance with the national & international aviation standards. All the Airlines, Maintenance & repair organisations, flying clubs, etc. appoint these AMEs for the certification of their aircraft and its components as per the civil aviation rules and regulations. In terms of employment opportunities, aircraft maintenance engineering is probably the most promising job in the aviation sector.

How can we get an AME Licence?

An Aircraft Maintenance Engineering aspirant needs to complete the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course from an institute approved by DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation). Students are required to pass all the module examinations conducted by DGCA which is the designated authority. It issues licenses only to those candidates who pass the exams as a part of eligibility to get a license and acquire maintenance experience as per DGCA CAR 66.

Why you should choose Aircraft Maintenance Engineering in India after 12th?

Currently, India stands as the ninth-largest aviation market and one of the fastest-growing domestic air markets in the world. The industry is said to be contributing a total of $72 billion to the nation’s GDP. The civil aviation sector is growing at a fast pace and bringing in more foreign investments and creating new job opportunities for young aspirants in India. The UDAN scheme plays an important role in promoting the scope of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. It can make airfares affordable for common people to choose air travel. The growth rate, of air passengers, is around 25% which leads to the need for new aircraft and engineers in aviation. Boeing and Airbus set up their MRO organizations in different states of India. It creates thousands of jobs for young engineers. India took its first steps in manufacturing civil aircraft, which increased the opportunities for aircraft engineers.

What is the placement probability at ARDC?

As highlighted about the uniqueness of the Indian aviation industry and the amount of development it is poised at, placements are not going to be an issue. Thanks to the various initiatives of the Indian Government towards the development of MROs and the Indian aviation sector, will create huge requirements for B1 and B2 licensed AMEs as of today. As they are the only certifying engineers as per CAR 66 who can maintain and release the aircraft after checking its airworthiness.

What is the difference between AME and Aeronautical Engineering?

AME is a licensing course offered by the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) approved institutes while Aeronautical Engineering is a regular 4-year degree course approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Both can be chosen after XII with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course equips one with practical knowledge to keep the airworthiness of an aircraft, whereas an aeronautical engineer studies design, structure, system, and aerodynamics to increase flight safety and reduce overall cost.

In India, all the engineers in Civil Aviation are required to possess an AME license as regulated by DGCA CAR 66. Engineers who did MTech and Ph.D. in Aeronautical Engineering/other engineering are required to obtain an Aircraft Maintenance Engineering license as per DGCA CAR 66 in order to release the aircraft.

What is the minimum qualification required to get admission to Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Colleges in India?

Indian Aerospace and Engineering have induced a new set of exclusive academic courses which will allow the students to pursue two degrees from separate domains simultaneously. Students can opt for an additional course along with studying Aircraft Maintenance Engineering.

The Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Business Administration, and Bachelor of Computer Application are approved by DGCA, AICTE, and UGC (under government-approved Universities Rajiv Gandhi Prodyogiki Vishwavidyalaya or Barkatullah University) respectively.
